FAQs
If my double-sided lock model DL5200, DL5300 or PDL5300 loses power, can it provide "fail-safe" or "fail-secure" capabilities?
No, Alarm Lock double-sided locks are not "fail-safe" and are not "fail-secure". If a double-sided lock loses power, the lock does not change its state (locked or unlocked); the lock simply remains in the state it was in just prior to its loss of power.
Important:
With the Alarm Lock double-sided lock models, both sides of the lock contain levers and keyholes, but only one side can be unlocked with the metal key (latch retracted) to allow passage through the door. The key inserted into the keyhole on the other side ONLY allows removal / installation of its lever (does NOT retract the latch).
Because the metal key will not retract the latch from this side of the door (called the "secondary side" in the installation instructions, WI1623), we highly recommend that these double-sided lock models never be installed into the sole exit door of a room.
Before installing a double-sided lock, installers must thoroughly consider all situations (such as panic exit due to fire) before deciding where this type of lock is to be installed and which side of the lock will be installed on which side of the door. Read and understand the installation instructions (WI1623) completely before installing.
