What is a Model 44 Double-Door Holder and how does it work?
The Model 44 is a fully mechanical device used with double-door installations that do not have a center mullion (a mullion is a slender vertical member that forms a division between two doors). The Model 44 is mounted to the inactive door, securing the inactive door to the top of the door frame when the active door is closed. Opening the active door automatically allows both doors to swing freely.
When the active door closes, it pushes in the "Horizontal Pin", causing the "Vertical Pin" to extend into a strike plate mounted to the top of the door frame, securing the inactive door (see image at left).
When the active door opens, the "Horizontal Pin" is released, allowing the "Vertical Pin" to retract, allowing the inactive door to be opened.
