FAQs
In a system with existing "Classic" (model GEM-RP1CAe2) keypads, how do I change the system to use "K Style" (model GEM-K1CA) keypads? When I wire the GEM-K1CA keypad, the display reads, "Invalid Entry".
To change the system keypad type from "Classic" to "K Style", first wire a new "K Style" keypad to the control panel. Note that there is no need to remove the "Classic" keypad(s) that are already in the system. Next, on the new "K Style" keypad simply press and hold the STAY button until the keypad beeps; these beeps indicate the system keypad type has been changed from "Classic" to "K Style".
Note that when the keypad beeps and the system keypad type changes from "Classic" to "K Style" as described above, there is no text indication on the keypad display that confirms the change has occurred (the display will simply read "Keypad Beep On" only). Therefore, to confirm the system keypad type has been changed from "Classic" to "K Style", press MENU to scroll through the existing menu items until "Keypad Type" is displayed. The text "K1CA" should be displayed, confirming the current system keypad type is indeed "K Style".
Note: If you do not have a "K Style" keypad, you can toggle from "Classic" to "K Style" system keypad type using a "Classic" keypad, as follows: Press and hold the INTERIOR button until the keypad beeps; these beeps indicate the system keypad type has been changed from "Classic" to "K Style".
