I am using a StarLink LTE communicator as a backup to a POTS ("Plain Old Telephone System") landline and I noticed that the communicator begins dialing immediately after the landline is picked up, and signals are not being sent over the POTS landline. What is the issue?
If you are using your StarLink LTE communicator as a backup to a POTS ("Plain Old Telephone System") landline but you notice that the communicator begins dialing immediately after the landline is picked up, and signals are not being sent over the POTS landline, check jumper block labeled "X5" inside the communicator. These symptoms are often caused by not having jumper 3 installed to configure "Backup Mode" (jumper terminals are numbered 1-5 from top to bottom). Configuring "Backup Mode" sendsthe signals over the cellular network if the voltage drops on the POTS landline.
When wiring the StarLink communicator, connect the POTS lines to communicator terminals TB10 ("Tip") and TB11 ("Ring"), and connect the communicator to the control panel normally using terminals TB12 and TB13. Be sure to install jumper 3in jumper block "X5" (located at the top right corner) as described above.
