FAQs
My DL-Windows database is currently using an older version of SQL, and I am planning to install SQL 2014 (which is included with DL-Windows V5.5.4). How should I proceed? Do you have recommended steps?
Before You Begin, Back Up Your Database
- Launch your current version of DL-Windows and select Tools > Backup Database. Note the name and location of the backup file created (you will need to locate and move this file later).
Note: Some users may receive the message, "Database version does not match current version" when executing the Restore Database command. Avoid this error by using the Tools > Export Account command for each of your accounts. The Export Account / Import Account options are more forgiving to version discrepancies.
Install and Configure SQL 2014
- Install SQL 2014 into your PC, open the DL-Windows Database Configuration screen and select the "Database Server Name" associated with SQL 2014.
- Select Enable Database Configuration Options and Create New Database. Select Next, then Finish.
- Locate your backup file made in step 1 and move it into the following SQL 2014 backup folder:
Program Files / Microsoft SQL Server / MSSQL12.SQLEXPRESS / MSSQL / Backup
Use Your Existing DL-Windows Version to Restore Your Database into SQL 2014
- Launch your current version of DL-Windows and select Tools > Restore Database. Select your backup file (navigate to the SQL 2014 backup folder from the previous step).
Before proceeding, ensure your database backup file has populated the DL-Windows main screen. Note: The Import Account option (see step 1) may also be applied now.
Update to the New DL-Windows Version 5.5.4
- Uninstall your existing version of DL-Windows and install DL-Windows version 5.5.4.
Configure and Import Your Database into DL-Windows Version 5.5.4
- Launch the Database Configuration screen by selecting Start > DL-Windows 5 > Database Configuration.
- Select Enable Database Configuration Options
- Select Create New Database & Import Data from Previous Version.
- Select the Database Name pull-down to select your previous DL-Windows version number from the pull-down list.
- Select Next.
- If the message appears: "an existing 5.x.x database has been found…", select Yes.
- Select Finish.
