FAQs
How do you use an outside rim cylinder (with finger pull) for exterior access with Alarm Lock Models 250 / 260 / 700 / 710?
For outside access using a rim cylinder and Finger Pull with the Model 250 / 260 / 700 / 710 exit locks, you may notice the door will not open easily if forced. This is intentional due to the "dead latch" design feature of these units. This feature can be overridden by an accurate placement of the cylinder rotation. At a particular position of the key's rotation, the retracting deadbolt depresses the dead latch, releasing both latches to allow entry through the door.
To ensure that entry through the door is performed consistently, we recommend to slowly turn the exterior cylinder (with the key) while gently pulling the Finger Pull. When the retracting deadbolt depresses the dead latch, the door will open. IMPORTANT: Excessive force from pulling the Finger Pull or from turning the key will prevent the door from opening.
