FAQs
How do I move CardAccess 3000 to a new computer including my current databases?
VERY IMPORTANT: If possible, name the new computer the same name as the old computer name. This will eliminate some of the most difficult steps in this procedure.
If you are using the same version of CardAccess 3000 on the new computer, you must install the CardAccess 3000 on the new computer as if you are doing a NEW install. If you are using a physical USB security key, you must move it to the new computer also. If you are using a software license, you MUST UNREGISTER/REVOKE it on the old computer, and then activate and register it on the new computer.
Before moving any databases from the old computer to the new computer, you must verify the CardAccess 3000 launches properly and there are no security key/licensing errors. Once the new installation is working fine on the new computer, shut down the CardAccess 3000 software completely and then perform the following steps :
OLD COMPUTER
1) Using the CardAccess utilites, connect to a database other than the databases you are moving over. If no other databases are available, create a temp database and connect to it.
2) Using the CardAccess utilities, detach the two databases you are moving over. In most cases it is a live database and a archive database.
3) There are two files associated with each database (.mdf & .ldf). By default, these files should be in the Database folder under the CardAccess3000 folder.
4) Make a copy of the 4 files (2-mdf's & 2 ldf's) from the old computer and paste them in the Database folder under the CardAccess 3000 folder on the new computer.
NEW COMPUTER:
1) Using the CardAccess Utiliities on the new computer, attach the two databases you copied over and connect to the live database.
2) Close the CardAccess utility and verify the CardAccess 3000 software launches with all the configuration data from the old computer (panels, readers, badges...).
3) If the new computer has a different name than the old computer, you will have to do the following:
- If the CardAccess 3000 fails to launch on the new computer, you must remove any entries in the Livedatabase MAIL table that reference the old computer name. You can install the SQL Server Management Studio from the CardAccess 3000 DVD. If you are not familiar with SQL tools, you can contact Continental Technical Support for assistance.
- Under System>System Setting>Auto Archive, reconfigure the Archive databases and remove all entries with the old computer name.
