FAQs
What are the differences between a Monitor Zone and a Supervisory Zone, and in which cases would I use each type?
A Monitor Zone is used to monitor Fire troubles in the system. The four-integral EZM zones on the GEMC-NAC7 extender, or the monitoring of AC power and battery troubles on Auxiliary power supplies are examples of Zones that would be programmed as Monitor Zones. An open or short across the Monitor Zone causes a Fire trouble indication.
A Supervisory Zone is used to monitor a Fire system device that requires a response from a building owner or manager, but does not require a response from a fire department.
Examples of devices that would be programmed for Supervisory Zones include gate valve tampers on a fire sprinkler system, fire pumps, and low-pressure dry pipe sprinkler system. A short is required across this zone for a supervisory signal. An open will cause a trouble indication.
