FAQs
My NL-MOD is not reporting signals to the central station. What can I do?
Before proceeding to step 1, verify the following:
- I have successfully connected the "original" serial cable supplied with the NL MOD, connected between the NL-MOD "LOCAL DNLD" port and the control panel local download port. If the serial cable used is not the original, please take the time to connect the original cable before proceeding.
- Using PCD-Windows Quickloader software (Digital Communications screen), I have disabled my receiver format and checked Report to TCP/IP Receiver or AES for the Telco line used to report signals.
- In the Digital Communications screen, Digital / Dialing Options tab, I have checked both TCP/IP Communications and TCP/IP Panel/Site Initiated Functions checkboxes.
- I have provided the NL-MOD MAC address to my central station and they activated the NL MOD in their receiver.
- Using the NL-MODCONFIG software, I entered my central station IP Address under the NL-Receivers tab, corresponding to the correct Telco line used to report signals.
- My NL-MOD is connected to a network and its CAT5e connectivity lights are solid green (on the left) and blinking green (on the right).
- I checked that the NL-MOD has the latest firmware installed, by using the NL-MODCONFIG software (click Options > Display NL-Mod Info). Note: The latest version as of this writing is V1.6.203 (April 2013).
If after verifying the above items the NL-MOD is still not receiving signals, please perform the following troubleshooting steps:
- To determine the location of the issue (either the NL-MOD or the control panel), short the NL-MOD terminals GND and IN0 using an ordinary wire. Note: If the NL-MOD has been correctly programmed using the NL-MODCONFIG software (click the Input Setup button), and is successfully connected to a network, upon shorting these terminals the NL-MOD red LED labeled DS1 (located at the top center of the NL-MOD PC board) will blink, and the NL-MOD will send an "E123 Panic" code to the central station.
If the red "DS1" LED BLINKED when shorting the GND and IN0 screw terminals, start at step "a" below (if this LED blinked when shorting the terminals, this indicates the issue lies with the control panel programming or is possibly due to a faulty cable). If the LED did NOT blink, jump to step "g" below.
a. Ensure one end of the serial cable is firmly connected to the control panel Local Download socket and the other end to the NL-MOD "LOCAL DNLD" port. To ensure proper cable connectivity, try swapping the ends of the serial cable (be sure to use the original serial cable provided with the NL-MOD). Replacing the serial cable with a new one will exclude the likelihood of a faulty cable; connect a new cable now and after performing the steps below, if necessary.
b. Re-verify: Use PCD-Windows Quickloader software and open the Digital Communications screen and ensure the reporting format is disabled and the Report to TCP/IP Receiver or AES checkbox is checked.
c. Re-Verify: Open the Digital Communications screen, Digital / Dialing Options tab, and ensure both the TCP/IP Communications and TCP/IP Panel/Site Initiated Functions checkboxes are checked (enabled).
d. Check to ensure the Central station IP Address is programmed into the NL-MODCONFIG software. Also verify the IP address programmed in the NL-MODCONFIG software corresponds with the Telco line enabled with the Report to TCP/IP Receiver or AES checkbox in Quickloader software. For example, to report TCP/IP signals through Telco 3, run the NL-MODCONFIG software and type the central station IP address in the 3rd Receiver tab; if only using Telco 1, type the IP address in the Primary tab only.
e. Perform a full download to the control panel, then restart the panel.
f. In the NL-MODCONFIG software, click Options > Display NL-Mod Info to verify the latest firmware version is installed (Note: The latest version as of this writing is V1.6.203 (April 2013).
If the red "DS1" LED DID NOT BLINK when shorting the GND and IN0 screw terminals, start at step "g" below (if this LED did not blink when shorting the terminals, this indicates the issue lies with the NL-MOD programming and/or it is a network issue).
g. Check the network settings and verify the system is successfully connected to a network. The NL-MOD CAT5e connectivity lights are solid green (on the left) and blinking green (on the right). Also ensure that the router or switch to which the NL-MOD is connected has its port light illuminated.
h. Verify that the central station has the correct MAC Address of the NL-MOD. Request that the central station send signals to the receiver to ensure a valid connection.
i. Verify that the IP address of the central station is programmed correctly in the NL-MODCONFIG software (in the NL-Receivers tab). Note the three tabs within the NL-Receivers tab: Telco 1 = Primary receiver tab, Telco 2 = 2nd Receiver tab, Telco 3 = 3rd Receiver tab.
j. Confirm that you can upload and download to the NL-MOD using the NL-MODCONFIG software. This will help determine if a successful connection to a network exists, and that the IP addresses used are correct.
k. In the NL-MODCONFIG software, click Options > Display NL-Mod Info to verify the latest firmware version is installed (Note: The latest version as of this writing is V1.6.203 (April 2013).
l. If the NL-MOD is located behind a corporate network or corporate firewall, you may need to port forward port 5001, and set up a static IP address in the NL-MOD using the NL-MODCONFIG software. These steps are required if the NL-MOD is located behind a corporate network or corporate firewall that is preventing the system from accessing the Internet and/or blocking port 5001 (the port used to send signals to the central station).
If the NL-MOD is still unable to send signals to the central station, please contact Tech Support at 1-800-645-9440 option 3.
