FAQs
Can I program my FireLink / GEMC fire alarm system to allow an HVAC system to be independently overridden and restarted after a fire alarm HVAC shutdown?
Yes! When a fire alarm activates, the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system is generally required to be shut down to prevent the spread of smoke and fire. After a fire alarm-triggered shutdown, the HVAC system does not automatically restart when the alarm is reset, and therefore a separate manual override and restart procedure is required. To program the FireLink and GEMC control panels to allow for independent manual override and restart of the HVAC system after a fire alarm, proceed as follows:
As shown in the image below, program the required relays as Supplemental (this option is also known as "Non-Resettable"). Relays thus programmed are independent of the silencing and resetting of the control panel after a fire alarm.
To silence and reset these Supplemental relays after a fire alarm, you must first enter a valid fire user code (followed by ENTER) to unlock a fire system keypad, then scroll through the Function Menu options and select "Supplemental Output Reset" (or optionally you can unlock a fire keypad and press / hold down the 'zero' keypad button). Resetting this Supplemental relay will override the alarm and release the HVAC relay, allowing it to operate again.
