Why is my Central Station receiving "Loss of Central Polling" troubles?
To ensure that the StarLink communicator is working properly even when not sending regular test timers or signals, polling is used in the background either to the NAPCO NOC (if communicating to a receiver telephone number) or directly to the IP receiver.
A loss of central polling trouble occurs when the StarLink communicator does not communicate within the selected polling failure time. For example, a polling failure time of 60 minutes means the StarLink communicator will attempt to communicate every 30 minutes. If the StarLink communicator does not send at least one poll within that predetermined time, the NOC will send a 356 Contact ID code to the central station if communicating to the receiver via a telephone line. If communicating to an IP receiver, the receiver will create a YC trouble code for loss of central polling and a YK when restored.
A loss of central polling means that the StarLink communicator is not communicating, usually due to environmental issues or simple power loss. Polling issues can also be caused when the StarLink communicator is not initially registered and programmed in the proper order. The proper procedure is to register/activate the StarLink communicator while it is unpowered and to wait approximately 15 minutes before powering up. After the StarLink communicator has checked-in and its status in the NOC changes from waiting to checkin to device running properly, then you can proceed with programming the communicator. If the polling issue is caused by improper activation or programming, often the simplest fix is to reset the communicator back to its factory default settings and reprogram the unit.
