How do I connect 2-wire and 4-wire smoke detectors to an automatic gate with Gemini GEM-P3200, GEM-P9600 and GEM-X255 control panels?
When a fire alarm occurs within a premises that has a powered front entry gate, it is important for the gate to open upon a fire alarm condition to permit entry to the fire response team. Detailed below are the steps for wiring 2-wire and 4-wire smoke detectors to an automatic gate (Gemini GEM-P3200, GEM-P9600 and GEM-X255 control panels).
4-Wire Smoke Detectors:
- Wire the Fire Power negative of the control panel {terminal 29} to the negative Power In on the smoke detector.
- Wire the Fire Power positive of the control panel {terminal 28} to the positive Power In on the smoke detector.
- Wire the zone positive trip wire {terminal 26} (ZONE 7) to the positive Power Out on the smoke detector.
- Wire the zone negative trip {terminal 25} (ZONE 7) wire to the negative Power Out on the smoke detector.
- Wire the 2.2K end of line resistor across the positive and negative Power Out terminals on the smoke detector.
- Place the jumper for Zone 7 on the top two pins {Burg} position on the smoke detector.
2-Wire Smoke Detectors:
- Wire the two-wire Fire Power negative (-) {terminal 27} (ZONE 8) to the negative terminal of the smoke detector.
- Wire the two-wire Fire Power positive (+) {terminal 28} (ZONE8) to the positive terminal of the smoke detector.
- Wire a 2.2K end of line resistor across the negative and positive terminals of the smoke detector.
- Place the jumper for Zone 8 on the bottom two pins {two-wire fire} on the smoke detector
- On the control panel motherboard, cut the jumper {A} for a dry Aux Relay.
- Connect a wire from the common of the control panel Aux Relay {terminal 6} to the common on the gate relay.
- Connect a wire from the normally closed of the control panel Aux Relay {terminal 7} to the gate relay active high terminal or positive terminal.
- Program the control panel Fire Zone 7 as a 2-wire Fire (or Zone 8 as 4-wire Fire) and enable the feature Auxiliary Output in PCD-Windows Quickloader software (see image below). Note: The remaining wiring that runs from the gate to the opener and locks should be performed by the automatic gate installer.
