Door Position Indicator Switch Misalignment for models PDL4100, PDL4500, DL4100, DL4500.
A "deadbolt position monitor", monitors the position of the deadbolt, i.e. either extended or retracted. Its general purpose, when the lock is programmed correctly, is to place the lock into or out of Residency Mode or Privacy Mode.
This Tech Tip is intended to describe its operation, when to recognize the abnormal lock operation that results from its incorrect installation, and how to re-install it correctly.

Privacy Mode is often used where key-free, temporary sessions of privacy are required, such as single-occupancy restrooms, dressing rooms, confidential file rooms, etc. Privacy Mode is usually activated by turning a knob or pressing a button located on the inner (protected side) of the door.
However, Privacy Mode can ALSO be activated from the outer (unprotected side) of the door by using the metal key. This means that the Privacy lock can also be used to temporarily lock a restricted area, such as an office or storage room for a short time.
The "Time-Out Duration" (the time the "Privacy Feature" is enabled) can be set between 1-250 minutes (the factory default duration is 10 minutes).
Note: For locks where Privacy Mode is often activated and cancelled, more frequent battery changes may be necessary.

Lock models (P)DL4100 and (P)DL4500 include a programmable "Privacy Mode" feature typically used with rooms needing temporary privacy from others (e.g., bathrooms, dorms, and meeting rooms). After using an access code to enter the protected room, the user presses a button on the inside lock body to disable the keypad and/or proximity reader to prevent another "Basic User" (credentials associated with User Numbers 12 and greater) from entering for a pre-programmed duration. There is a red LED on the exterior / outside lock that blinks to indicate that the room is occupied.
The factory default Privacy Mode timeout duration is 10 minutes. To change the number of minutes, use the keypad key sequences described in this Tech Tip.
